Background:
ALDH1A (Aldehyde dehydrogenases class 1 alpha is belongs to a group of enzymes that catalyse the dehydrogenation of aldehydes. All of this enzymes exist mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum. Aldehyde dehydrogenases have a broad substrate specificity. Oxidation of aldehydes is considered to be generally a detoxification reaction, removing the electrophilic products of alcohol oxidation.
