African swine fever virus, the only known DNA arbovirus, causes highly lethal disease in both feral and domestic swine in Africa, Asia, Europe, and other regions. With no available vaccine and control measures limited to quarantine and culling, African swine fever has had an immense economic impact. At least 150 proteins are encoded in the ASFV genome, with the viral inner envelope protein p54 being a crucial virus attachment factor in addition to being immunogenic.
