Application Note

Neutralization: To yield one-half maximal inhibition [ND50] of the biological activity of hBDNF (2.0 μg/ml), a concentration of 0.54-0.81 μg/ml of this antibody is required. Sandwich ELISA: To detect hBDNF by sandwich ELISA (using 100 μl/well antibody solution) a concentration of 0.5 - 2.0 μg/ml of this antibody is required. Western Blot: To detect hBDNF by Western Blot analysis this antibody can be used at a concentration of 0.1-0.2 μg/ml. Optimal dilutions should be determined experimentally by the researcher.

Background

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the nerve growth factor family. It is induced by cortical neurons, and is necessary for survival of striatal neurons in the brain. Expression of this gene is reduced in both Alzheimer's and Huntington disease patients. This gene may play a role in the regulation of stress response and in the biology of mood disorders. Multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2009]
