Background

DDIT3 is a basic region leucine zipper transcription factor, devoid of DNA binding site. It is capable of heterodimerizing with members of the CCAAT/ enhancer binding protein (C/EBP) family of transcription factors. It is both an activating and a repressing factor that is markedly induced in response to many signals such as growth arrest, DNA damage, calcium ionophore, nutrient deprivation, hypoxia, hyperoxia, hyperosmosis, and endoplasmic reticulum stress.
