Product Note
Reacts with reduced and non-reduced MMP-23. Recognizes the pro-form and active forms of MMP-23 as well as a series of further cleaved active forms. The hemopexin domain is removed from the smallest active form of MMP-23 and the antibody does not detect this form.

Background
Matrix Metalloproteinase 23 (MMP21, MMP22, MIFR2, CAMMP) was first described in tumor cells. MMP23 shares much of the same domain structure as the classical MMPs, but has a unique cysteine array. The cysteine switch that is found in the classical MMPs is lacking or has a different sequence in MMP23. MMP23 has a furin cleavage site and it is thought to be localized within the cell. MMP23 has been reported as splice variants with different truncations at its C-terminus. MMP23 is predominantly expressed in ovary, testis, and prostate indicating that it plays a specialized role in reproductive processes. The human MMP23 gene has the chromosomal location of 1p36.3. The chromosome 1 location is a unique position among all the MMP genes currently mapped.
