Adhesion GPCRs

Class B2 G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), also known as adhesion GPCRs (aGPCRs), are characterized by large extracellular domains and an autoproteolytic GAIN domain. Their unique structure, and the fact that several aGPCRs are mechanosensors, distinguishes them from other GPCR classes. They play key roles in adhesion, development, the immune response, and cell communication, with their dysfunction linked to inflammation, malignancies, and neurological disease. As such, aGPCRs not only provide insight into fundamental biological mechanisms but also represent promising targets for therapeutic development.
