The protein encoded by this gene is a proinflammatory cytokine that augments natural killer cell activity in spleen cells, and stimulates interferon gamma production in T-helper type I cells. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Aug 2011]

Non-transfected (–) and transfected (+) HeLa whole cell extracts (30 μg) were separated by 12% SDS-PAGE, and the membrane was blotted with IL18 antibody [HL1761] (GTX637411) diluted at 1:5000. The HRP-conjugated anti-rabbit IgG antibody (GTX213110-01) was used to detect the primary antibody, and the signal was developed with Trident ECL plus-Enhanced.

Indirect ELISA analysis was performed by coating the plate with recombinant E.coli expressed, full-length human IL18 protein, His tag (GTX00227-pro) (3.47-0.05 nM). Coated protein was probed with IL18 antibody [HL1761] (GTX637411) (1 μg/mL). Goat anti-rabbit IgG antibody (HRP) (GTX213110-01) (1:10000) was used to detect the bound primary antibody.
