Protein's bioactivity determined by the mitogenic activity on human umbilical vein endothelial cells and bovine aortic endothelial cells. Mitogenic activity was obtained for stimulation of 3H-thymidine incorporation and cell proliferation in a concentration range of 1.0 to 5.0 ng/ml.

Background

VEGF (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor) is a homodimeric protein secreted by a variety of Vascularized tissues. VEGF stimulates endothelial cell growth, angiogenesis, and capillary permeability. Murine VEGF is a 39 kDa homodimeric protein consisting of two 165 amino acid polypeptide chains.
