Breast- Abundant periostin positive stroma in an invasive lobular breast cancer.
Colon – Intense stromal periostin immunostaining in a colorectal adenocarcinoma. Focal epithelial periostin staining may reflect a “contamination artifact” caused by the very high levels of periostin in the surrounding stroma.
Colon- Colorectal adenocarcinoma showing little periostin positive material in the stroma.
Esophagus – Squamous cell carcinoma containing highly abundant periostin in the stroma. Epithelial periostin staining could reflect a “contamination artifact” caused by the very high levels of periostin in the surrounding stroma.
Esophagus- Squamous cell carcinoma containing few periostin positive fibres in the stroma.
Kidney- Clear cell renal cell carcinoma containing a net of thin periostin positive fibres in the stroma.
Kidney- Periostin positive material in the stroma of an oncocytoma.
Kidney- Some periostin positive material occurs in the stroma of a papillary renal cell carcinoma.
Oral cavity- Abundant periostin positive material in the stroma of a squamous cell carcinoma.
Oral cavity- Periostin is lacking in a squamous cell carcinoma.
Oral cavity- Squamous cell carcinoma containing abundant periostin in the stroma.
Ovary- Only limited periostin immunostaining in the stroma of a serous high-grade carcinoma.
Pharynx- Periostin is abundant at the invasive margin of a squamous cell carcinoma.
Prostate- Adenocarcinoma (Gleason 3+3=6) lacking any periostin immunostaining.
Prostate- Adenocarcinoma (Gleason 3+3=6) showing focal periostin immunostaining of the stroma.
Thyroid- Periostin immunostaining is absent in a papillary carcinoma.
Thyroid- Periostin positive fibres surrounding tumor cell nests of a follicular carcinoma.
Urinary bladder- Muscle-invasive urothelial carcinoma containing a significant quantity of periosin positive material in the stroma.
Urinary bladder- Periostin immunostaining is absent in a non-invasive papillary urothelial carcinoma (pTa).
Uterus – Endometroid endometrium carcinoma containing abundant periostin in the stroma. Epithelial periostin staining could reflect a “contamination artifact” caused by the very high levels of periostin in the surrounding stroma
Uterus- Moderate intensity periostin immunostaining of the stroma of a serous endometrium carcinoma.
Uterus- Some periostin positive material in the stroma of an endometroid endometrium carcinoma.
Uterus, cervix- Periostin immunostaining occurs in the stroma of a squamous cell carcinoma.
Vagina- Intense periostin immunostaining in the stroma of a squamous cell carcinoma.
Vulva- Intense stromal periostin immunostaining in a squamous cell carcinoma.
